The popular phrase “Polly want a cracker?” began as an advertising slogan for Lewis Dozier's Soda Cracker Company and originated in the house.
In the 1998 Warner Bros/NBC mini-series, A Will of Their Own, 10 Westmoreland Place was a principal location used for the home of main character Amanda Steward, played by Lea Thompson. The series also starred Academy Award, Tony Award and Emmy Award winner Ellen Burstyn, Thomas Gibson, and Eric McCormack.
The current owners hosted many parties that included both local and international guests in the radio, television and movie industry. Their annual holiday party accommodated all of the local media personalities, writers and producers. For over a decade, they also hosted the annual St. Louis International Film Festival party, where local, national and international stars, producers and directors gathered to meet and greet during the 10-day event.
This grand home, with a full length lower level ballroom with side bar, ideal for entertainment events, has been the perfect private wedding venue for family and friends as well as countless charity galas and fundraisers, gracefully accommodating 250 guests for The St Louis Symphony, St Louis Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, Gateway Men’s Chorus, political causes, Ted X, and more. It held popular pool parties in summer in the 40 ft. pool and legendary Holiday parties in winter, both formal and informal dinner parties in the dining room, often spilling over to the large open kitchen space and adjacent outside back porch.
The Nabisco Mansion has opened it’s doors to the public for ticketed tours for Landmarks Association, The Victorian Society and The Central West End House Tours for over 4,000 visitors in one weekend. This historic house has been featured in National Magazines, Newspapers, Local and National TV including the favorite, If Walls Could Talk, music videos, modeling shoots and many books. It even starred in the Japanese film, A Christmas in America, and was recently on the magazine cover and featured as Readers' Favorite in the nation by Old House Journal, Dec. 2020.
